Insurance transfer:

Questions and answers

Do I have to do something for my insurance coverage to be transferred to Sogemec and its insurer?

Yes, you must sign and send to Sogemec Assurance the authorization document that was sent to you by the QMA at the end of November.

What do I have to do if I do not wish my insurance coverage to be transferred to Sogemec?

Your file will not be transferred to Sogemec unless you authorize it. However, in order to avoid receiving calls, you can return the authorization document indicating that you refuse the transfer.

I am a general physician, am I eligible to the transfer for my coverage to Sogemec Assurances?

As a member of the Collège des Médecins du Québec, it is possible to transfer your life and disability, office expenses and critical illness insurance coverage, without any other obligation.

As for the drugs and health insurance coverage, you have to me a member of the Médecins francophones du Canada. You can join Médecins francophones du Canada free of charge by filling out the attached form.

You can also join the insurance plan offered by your Federation (FMOQ), the insurance plan of your spouse or of your employer

When will I receive the documents confirming my coverage is in effect with Sogemec and its insurer?

Our goal is to send your new insurance certificate and your invoice during the first week of February 2020.

Do I have to expect changes to my coverage in the future?

Sogemec will carry out an in-depth analysis of its insurance offer during the year 2020 in order to standardise its insurance offer to all insured doctors.

For example, the travel insurance clause of the FMSQ plan is more generous than the AMQ plan.

Do I have to expect premiums increases in the future?

Much like your insurance plan with the AMQ, Sogemec carry out each year a thorough actuarial and professional analysis of renewal conditions for all its insurance coverage. The disability and life insurance premiums have not increased or have been reduced in the last few years.

Concerning the drugs and health insurance, the premiums of the drugs insurance coverage did not increase over the past four years, while the health insurance coverage had to be adjusted to reflect the level of claims of the coverage.

What will happen to the premiums I already paid to Vigilis?

Paid premiums for the period beyond February 2020 will be reimbursed directly by Vigilis.

To whom must I submit my claim if I become disable before February 29, 2020?

You will have to contact Vigilis and Sun Life insurer for any period of disability that began before March 1st, 2020, and this, regardless of your waiting period.

I am currently on disability; do I have to authorize my file’s transfer?

Yes, it is very important that you send us your authorization for your file’s transfer before February 2020. Your insurance cannot continue when you return to work if we did not receive your transfer authorization signed. You will then no longer have a disability insurance coverage.

Will I receive new cards for my drugs purchases in pharmacy?

Yes, new cards will be sent to you in March 2020.
